Horticulturist Job on Cruise Vessel


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Examines plants and soil/potting mix to assess moisture levels and waters plants as per species requirements.
  • Monitors plants for insects and diseases, consults plant care resources to identify problems, and determines corrective actions.
  • Applies specified chemical solutions to feed plants, control pests, and maintain plant health using sprays, aerosols, and other tools.
  • Prunes and pinches stems, shoots, and leaves to remove dead growth and promote new growth.
  • Oversees the proper disposal of diseased plants via the incinerator.
  • Maintains records on plant care, including location, variety, and treatment, and provides weekly reports of horticultural activities.
  • Cares for a variety of live plants and flowers across the vessel, following the ship’s integrated pest management plan.

REQUIREMENTS

  • 2-3 years of plant care experience in a 4- or 5-star hotel or high-profile public venue.
  • Knowledge of the horticultural requirements of ornamental plants, including the use of insecticides, fertilizers, and gardening tools.
  • Familiarity with general horticultural or agricultural chemicals, methods of application, and safety procedures.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in English with guests and colleagues.
  • Ability to read and write in English to understand and follow written procedures.
